Get Your Skate On!

There’s no doubt, Edmontonians have a passion for ice. For many, a pair of skates is as much of a wardrobe staple as a good pair of blue jeans and an Edmonton Oilers jersey. Luckily for those living in central Edmonton, lacing up and hitting the ice has never been easier.

Just a stone’s throw from Rogers Place, The Downtown Community Arena opened its doors 15 months ago; and while the space is used by Edmonton’s hometown team, much of the facility’s ice-time is dedicated to community programs.

“The arena and its programs were developed as part of an initiative to bring our downtown community together”, said Brett Prosser, Downtown Arena Program Manager. “It’s fantastic to see so many people utilize the space everyday”.

Every week, hundreds of skaters visit the facility to take advantage of the 11+ public skate programs, that include:

Adult Fitness Skate (Monday to Friday ‒ 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.)
For early risers looking to change up their standard workout.

Parents and Tots & Sticks and Pucks (Fridays ‒ 2:45 to 3:35 p.m.)
A perfect opportunity to get young children on the ice.

Older Adult Skate (Fridays – 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.)
A chance for older adults skate and socialize.

The best part? These programs are free, and offer skate and helmet rentals for all ages at no charge. So, whether you’re a newcomer experiencing skating for the first time, or a pro on blades, we got you covered.
